Field Placement

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I find my own placement for field experience?

No. The Office of Field Placement wants to make sure our students are placed in school with cooperating teachers where "best practice" is modeled. We also strive to place our students in schools with diversity of student populations, so that they are well trained to education the students they will encounter in the educational experience.

I substitute teach can my field experience be waived?

Field experience can not be waived. In your prerequisite classes and method classes you will have assignments that need to be accomplished in a classroom. Some may be ongoing and you may need to follow specific students all semester. That is why a substitute position does not work.

I want to be an intern, how do I go about getting an intern position?

In order to be an intern at CSUCI, you must have completed all your prerequisite classes and have passed your CSET test. If a school then offers you a job, you are qualified and can meet with our credential analyst to go through the procedures needed to become an intern.

Can I be placed at my child's school?

From past experience, we have determined that it is not in the best interest of your child or you professionally to be placed in a school where your son or daughter is attending. On our locator sheet there is a place to note your child's school, so that we can make sure you are not placed there.
