1. Admission to the University as a post-baccalaureate student.
  2. Admission to the Teacher Credential Program or completion of all aspects in the Teacher Credential Program application process.
  3. Earned baccalaureate degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution of higher education. 
  4. Successful completion of Basic Skills Requirement via one of the following pathways as outlined in Basic Skills Requirement (CL-667) :  
    • Passage of the CBEST exam or other appropriate basic skills exam
    • Qualifying Coursework
    • Combination of basic skills exam and qualifying coursework
  5. Demonstrate Subject Matter Competency via one of the following pathways as outlined in Subject Matter Requirements:
    • Passage of the appropriate CSET exam 
    • By completing 100% of a Commission approved subject matter program in the area in which the credential is sought.
    • Successful completion of applicable coursework that meet the domains of the subject matter requirement. 
    • Qualifying degree major a regionally-accredited college or university.
    • Successful completion through a combination of coursework and examination options that meet or exceed the domains of the subject matter requirements. 
  6. Meet the U.S. Constitution requirement.
  7. Completion of all required prerequisite coursework* with a grade of C or better.
  8. Offer of employment with a participating Ventura County or Santa Barbara public school district in a teaching assignment which matches the credential being pursued.
  9. Advising appointment with Intern Coordinator.

Continued participation in the CSU Channel Islands Intern Program requires successful maintenance** and completion of all University and employing district standards and conditions. Interns may not displace certificated employees. 

*Students possessing a Multiple or Single Subject credential, who seek admission to the Special Education Internship Program, do not need to complete prerequisite courses with the exception of SPED 530.

**Maintain GPA of 3.0 with no course grade lower than a C+
