Congratulations to Alondra Barajas Chavez who was recently recognized as a CABE Scholarship Recipient.  Alondra has been an active volunteer in her community since her freshman year in high school. Alondra’s experience working with school-aged children and teens lead her to the realization of the need for teachers to create a safe environment for students. The Struggle of navigating through the complexities of Special Education with language and cultural barriers is another reason Alondra is pursuing her Education Specialist Credential with a Bilingual Authorization. She wants to be a resource for families and a bridge that minimizes barriers and celebrates emerging bilingual students who are in Special Education.

The CABE Scholarship award demonstrates to Alondra that there are people in the community investing in students who are on a mission to be an active educator. CABE is helping Alondra leverage her bilingual fluency to break down language barriers and strengthen the relationship between schools and communities.

CABE is a non-profit organization promoting bilingual education and quality educational experiences for all students, with chapters and regions all over California, including the Ventura County chapter. Both state-wide and local CABE chapters recognize and honor California’s rich multicultural, racial, and linguistic backgrounds of all students with a mission to support biliteracy, multicultural competence, and educational equity.

Congratulations Alondra!
