Anne Marie Oliva, Barbara Meister Teaching scholarship awardee, is a Liberal Studies major seeking a Multiple Subject credential. Her goal is to become an elementary school teacher in Ventura County, where she grew up.

“I would love to work with grades 1 and 2, as I love how eager children are at this stage in their educational journey,” she said. “Of course, I would love to be a part of a child’s educational journey at any age that I have the privilege of working.”

She hopes her passion for English and teaching will help cultivate a similar passion for learning in her students. “My favorite subject to teach is English Language Arts because of my passion towards phonics and writing,” she added. “I hope to share my passion for education with my future students so that they can develop a positive relationship with school.”

The Barbara Meister Teaching scholarship has been especially crucial to Anne Marie this academic year as it has allowed her to continue to pursue her educational goals. “I truly believe I received this scholarship at the most perfect time. With the current circumstances of COVID-19, I have been unemployed for some time now,” she stated. “I am extremely fortunate that I received this financial help that has ultimately lightened my financial burden as I continue to finish my undergrad.”
