More than 100 Ventura County K-5 teachers spent a summer day at CSU Channel Islands building their skills and confidence for providing high quality physical education learning experiences for their students.

Teachers were active learners as they advanced their approach to:

· Using the content standards to plan lessons, as well as progress and regress learning

· Effectively assessing learning in physical education

· Exploring elements of instruction (how to best demonstrate new movements, instructional strategies, effective practice of movement skills, etc.)

· Considering the key elements of the class environment (what can transfer from inside the classroom to physical education, and what essential differences should be addressed), all in support of student learning

The professional learning program, provided by the California Physical Education-Health Project at CSU Channel Islands, equipped teachers with essential knowledge and skills and provided time for collaborative planning among colleagues. They’ll be ready for the new school year!
