BA in Early Childhood Education Studies- Integrated Teacher Education Program (ITEP) PK-3 Early Childhood Education Specialist Instruction Credential

The purpose of the Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Education Studies with an Integrated Teacher Education Program (ITEP) PK-3 Early Childhood Education (ECE) Specialist Instruction Credential, is to provide a pathway for students to earn their Early Childhood Studies Bachelor of Arts degree (B.A.) and a PK-3 Early Childhood Education Specialist Instruction Credential (with the option to earn Bilingual Authorization in an additional semester) in approximately 4 years. According to the California Commission on Teaching Credentialing (CTC), the PK-3 Early Childhood Education Specialist Instruction Credential authorizes the holder to teach all subjects in a self-contained general education classroom setting and to team teach or to regroup students across classrooms, in preschool through grade three.

    • Applicants who meet ALL of the following requirements will be considered for admission to the ITEP PK-3 ECE Credential program:
      • Apply to the ITEP PK-3 ECE Specialist Instruction program via Cal State Apply
      • Completion of Subject Matter - Students who completed two years in the Early Childhood Studies (ECS) major at CSUCI will meet subject matter through the ECS major coursework. Students who are non-ECS majors or California Community College Transfer students must complete 24 semester units in Early Childhood and/or Child Development or the equivalent quarter units of non-remedial, degree-applicable coursework at a regionally accredited institution of higher education in early childhood education and/or child development BEFORE entering the Integrated Teacher Education Program (ITEP) PK-3 Early Childhood Specialist Instruction Credential
      • Certificate of Clearance from the Commission on Teacher Credentialing 
        • Upload a copy of your Certificate of Clearance with your application. Please do not upload your Live Scan Form (41-LS) with your application.
        • This requires a 2-step process. Please anticipate up to a month for this process to clear. View our Certificate of Clearance Instructions 
      • Personal Statement 
        • A written statement of purpose (500-600 words). Please include all of the following: 
          • Your personal and professional reasons for seeking a PK-3 ECE Specialist instruction credential
          • Reflect on how your previous professional experiences have prepared you for this credential program
          • Reflect on how this program will allow you to develop the knowledge and skills to achieve your personal and professional goals.
      • Complete two years in the Early Childhood Studies major at California State University Channel Islands (CSUCI) OR earn an Associate Degree for Transfer (AS-T) in Early Childhood Education and/or Child Development at a California Community College BEFORE applying to the Integrated Teacher Education Program (ITEP) PK-3 Early Childhood Specialist Instruction Credential. 
      • Transfer students and students currently enrolled at CSUCI must have a GPA of at least 2.00 in order to declare the Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Studies Integrated Teacher Education Program (ITEP) PK-3 Early Childhood Specialist Instruction Credential as their major.
      • Meet all statutory requirements for entry to the Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Studies Integrated Teacher Education Program (ITEP) PK-3 Early Childhood Specialist Instruction Credential.
  • The Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Studies with Integrated Teacher Education Program (ITEP) PK-3 Early Childhood Education Specialist Instruction Credential, is intended to provide a pathway for students to earn their B.A in Early Childhood Studies and a PK-3 Early Childhood Education Specialist Instruction Credential (with the option to earn Bilingual Authorization in an additional semester) in approximately 4 years.
