Do you want to work with elementary age students, to teach a variety of subjects, and to play a part in building the foundation of students’ lifelong learning? Then the Multiple Subject Teaching Credential Program is for you!
This program prepares CI teacher candidates to instruct students (in all content areas) in elementary and multiple subject middle school classrooms*. Across the program’s courses and field work classrooms, students develop the skills to appreciate and capitalize on the diversity of languages and cultures encountered in California’s public-school classrooms. The belief that all children (regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, ability or economic status) are capable of learning and that educators make a difference in students’ lives provide the founding principles of the Multiple Subject Teaching Credential.
Upon completion of the program, candidates are eligible to apply for the Preliminary Multiple Subject Teaching Credential issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC). Candidates must successfully meet or pass the Basic Skills requirement, the Subject Matter requirement, the RICA exam and the CalTPA exam prior to being recommended for this credential.
*If you are interested in teaching middle school (and middle school only), please consult with the Chair of the Credential Programs prior to completing your application to determine the best program option.
Multiple Subject Teacher candidates can also pursue an add-on a Bilingual Authorization as part of the coursework. The details can be found on the Bilingual Authorization webpage.
Note: Undergraduate students are allowed to enroll in any professional preparation course. Full Admission to Phase II (Student Teaching and Methods Courses) of the Multiple Subject Credential Program requires successful completion of Phase I (prerequisites) and other applicable credential admission requirements.

The people that you are with and communicating experiences with each and every day is the most vital thing I received out of the program. They helped me, with the guidance of the professors, shape my teaching philosophy and made me the teacher I am today.
